Which Parrot Cage?
If you are searching for a parrot cage for either a new parrot or existing one, it can be quite a difficult decision. I would like to try and help make this process a bit easier by going through a few things your parrot needs.
Your parrot is hopefully going to be with you for a very long time so it is important that he is comfortable, relaxed and happy.
You should be looking for the largest cage possible that you can afford. This is very important.
Your parrot can never have too much space but he can have too little.
Parrots require lots of stimulation and are very intelligent. Your parrot needs to come out of his cage on a daily basis to play with you or by himself. An area where the parrot can play such as an open top cage is ideal. You can use this for training sessions, rewarding or just general play with your parrot.
Your parrot needs plenty of space and comfort so whichever cage you choose it needs to be very spacious.
Parrot beaks are very powerful and can cause a lot of damage so ensure that your cage is durable. Your cage needs to be well designed so that it lasts a lifetime not just a few years.
It is best to position the cage in an active room to help keep your parrot stimulated and happy. The parrot cage should be placed away from areas of high traffic (next to doorways), direct sunshine and draughts as these can stress him out.
An ideal placed for your parrot is in the corner of a room. With walls behind him he will feel a lot more secure. Corner cages will provide your parrot with comfort and security keeping him happy. They generally take up less space than conventional cages.
A parrot will see his cage as his home. He needs to come out regularly to interact with you but it is very important that he has his own space and can retreat to the cage if he wants to.
To keep your parrot happy and healthy, make sure he gets the right home.
