Grooming Styles for Shih Tzus
With all of the Shih Tzu grooming styeles to choose from it can be hard to choose just one. Do you want one that is easy to maintain?
For some Shih Tzu owners they find that the up keep of their dog’s grooming is too much hassle and they opt to keep the hair trimmed. Keeping the hair trimmed is much less time consuming for the owner.
Daily grooming is required for the fun loving Shih Tzu, if the owner has opted not to keep the coat trimmed. It is recommended that a steel comb or bristle brush is used when grooming a Shih Tzu. If the owner finds a lot of tangles or mats, then a plastic comb can be used.
For trimming requirements, often a cheap set of dog clippers will be great, and just what you need to keep all the hair on the body the same length. For a better look, most Shih Tzu owners keep the hair on their dog’s head and neck slightly longer.
The Shih Tzu Top Knot sytle is only for Shih Tzus with full lenght hair. This is where you pull the hair back on the head, away from the eyes, and pin it to the top of the head with a pin and place a bow on top.
This not only helps to allow the dog see much better, but helps keep the hair out of the mouth and prevents the brown saliva staining seen with some dogs. You can add your own twist to the Shih Tzu Top Knot, so be crative.
If you cannot properly keep up with the upkeep of the shih tzu grooming style you have choosen, it is often best just to trim all the hair short.
If nothng else, you should at least keep the hair trimmed so your dog can see, and so that the long hairs will not irritate your dog’s eyes.
